Carpentry School Day 9

2025.09.11

About a 40-minute drive from central Okayama City. Breakfast at the hotel starts at 6:30 AM, so I get up early to match that schedule. It’s become my usual habit to get some work done before breakfast before heading out.

The sky was cloudy when I left the hotel, but it’s often completely clear by the time I arrive at Somakosha, and today was blessed with good weather again. Since I arrived at the parking lot early, I took a short stroll around the area before heading to the workshop.

Today’s plan was to finish setting up the planes and start working on the “Kanawa joint.” However, the planes didn’t turn out as I’d hoped, and I didn’t get them ready for planing until just before 2 PM. I recalled how craftsmen at construction sites and furniture workshops use planes with such ease and skill as a matter of course, and I was once again impressed by their mastery.

Finally, around 3 PM, I was able to start marking and working on the metal ring joint.
