Carpentry School Day 8

2025.09.10

Today, starting in the morning, I toured a construction site where Somakosha was using the traditional Ishibadate construction method.

It was my first time seeing a new stone-based construction in progress, and I was impressed by the precision and beauty of the work.

After that, we returned to the workshop and observed a demonstration of marking and carving Kanawa joints, which had also been performed on-site. From the act of drawing lines to each step of the carving process, we were able to see the skilled techniques up close.

My own work continued with setting up the plane, as it had been yesterday. I finished most of the adjustments just before closing time, so tomorrow I should finally be able to start the planing work.
